Welcome to the Michigan Osteopathic Association's Autumn 2021 on demand CME program! 

Thank you for joining us! While we wish we could be meeting in-person, we are looking forward to another great online CME event. 

Once you purchase the program, you will have 30 days from start date to complete program evaluations and claim CME certificate. MOA offers a 30 day extension for $50 and please contact the MOA at (517) 347-1555 x112 to extend the deadline.

Under the "Course Schedule" tab registrants are able to access the CME sessions.

Dr. Brown is a full-time Senior Staff, Chiropractic Physician for the Henry Ford Medical Group. She is a board-certified and licensed chiropractor with the Henry Ford Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Brown received her Doctorate degree in Chiropractic Medicine from Palmer College of Chiropractic–West. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Science at Grand Valley State University. After graduating from chiropractic college, Dr. Brown was one of the first five chiropractors selected for the Veterans Administration Chiropractic Residency Program through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. After completing the one-year residency in upstate New York, she worked as a Staff Chiropractor in the Comprehensive Pain Clinic at the Minneapolis V.A. Medical Center.

While Dr. Brown practices chiropractic care for the entire family, she is passionate about women’s health. After recognizing a need for quality patient-centered care for women, she became a birth doula and is Webster certified to treat women during pregnancy and postpartum.

Ryan Engle is the Partnership Coordinator with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.  Prior to this role, he served with the Michigan Veteran Homes as the Administrator of the D.J. Dr. Galluzzi is Professor and Chair of the Department of Geriatrics and Director of Comprehensive Care at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; she is the Medical Director of PCOM Clinical Research Center and Medical Director of the Residentialist Group of home care providers in Philadelphia. Board certified in Geriatrics, Family Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Pain Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care, she is a Certified Medical Director through the American Medical Directors Association.

Dr. Galluzzi is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (local area agency on aging), a member of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, and is a distinguished fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Physicians (ACOFP). A Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, Past President of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society (POFPS), and former President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society, she chaired the AOA Council on Palliative Care Issues.

Dr. Galluzzi received the 2014 Outstanding Female Leader Award from the ACOFP and 1996 Frederick J. Solomon, DO, Award of Merit. In 2018 she received the Grace W. Harrison Award for distinguished service in the field of Long Term Care and was the 2005 recipient of the Barbara Bell, MD, Award for distinguished service in the field of geriatric medicine from the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society. She has authored several book chapters on pain and geriatric topics and has numerous publications. She is an active member of local and national organizations/committees and is a seasoned national speaker on geriatric topics such as health promotion and disease prevention, screening, dementia, pain and palliative care.

Dr. Galluzzi’s research interests mirror her clinical role: dementia, geriatric function, health promotion/disease prevention and the role of medical cannabis in pain and quality of life.

I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Infectious Diseases and have taken care of HIV patients for over 30 years. I have also taken care of hepatitis C patients for 20 years. I am a professor at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and I have developed courses in HIV and hepatitis. I teach medicine residents as well as ID fellows on HIV and hepatitis C at my clinical sites.

I am currently the Director of HIV/Hepatitis clinics at three sites:

  1. Ingham County Health Department
  2. Central Michigan Department of Community Health
  3. Great Lakes Community Health Clinics

All three sites are FQHC sponsored clinics, and all are funded by Ryan White for HIV Care. I am currently taking care of over 1000 HIV patients and over 500 Hepatitis C and B patients.

I am the Director of the HIV Registry at Michigan State University. The registry has data on over 600 HIV patients and we are currently doing translational research at MSU, which have been NIH sponsored grants.

Driver Rehabilitation Specialist

Heather joined Origami Rehabilitation in 2018, as a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. With her background in professional driving instruction and rehabilitation, Heather has been instrumental in the success and expansion of Origami’s Driver Rehabilitation service.

Throughout her academic career, Heather was intrigued with Driver Rehabilitation. Her final fieldwork was with a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist where she assessed individuals with physical, cognitive, and/or visual impairments for driving. Once introduced to Driver Rehabilitation this quickly became a passion and is a natural fit because of her own past experience. Heather became a Certified Driving Instructor in 2015 and specializes in vehicle modifications and adaptation recommendations. As a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, she also teaches Special Education Drivers Education to adolescents.  Heather is inspired daily by her interactions with clients and the rehabilitation process.  Her passion is to provide education, training, and recommendations on vehicle modifications to allow individuals with cognitive, visual, and/or physical disabilities safely drive and increase independence.

 

Heather’s professional certifications include Occupational Therapist Registered, Licensed, Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, Certified Teen, Adult, Truck Driving Instructor, Certified CPR Instructor, and Certified Brain Injury Specialist. Dr. Lawrence Prokop, received his first Bachelors of Science degree in Anthropology, Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in 1974, and his second in Biology, with Distinction from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1976. Dr. Prokop completed his residency at the The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Northwestern University in Chicago Illinois in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1984.

Dr. Prokop returned to Michigan State University to work as an Assistant Professor for two years in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and then he accepted a position at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C.. While in Washington D.C. from 1986 to 1992 he was also an attending physician at the Washington Hospital Center, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at The George Washington University, and he was the Medical Director of the Amputee Rehabilitation and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Programs from 1990 to 1992. In 1992 he became a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitating Facilities (CARF) and left Washington to open a private practice in Florida. From 1992 to 2003 he worked in his private practice as well as being the Medical Director for the Rehabilitation Transitional Care Unit in Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton Florida, and the Medical Director for the Rehabilitation Institute of West Florida, West Florida Hospital in Pensacola Florida.

Holli Seabury, EdD, is the Executive Director of the Delta Dental Foundation, which is dedicated to oral health equity and advancing dental science through education and research.

From 2009 to 2019 Dr. Seabury was the CEO of McMillen Health, a non-profit health education center serving over 90,000 annually. She was the lead curriculum developer for the Brush Oral Health Program, which serves over 1.85 million children nationwide through Early Head Start/Head Start and WIC.  Her work has focused on health literacy and developing educational materials for the Medicaid population, especially young families.

David J. Strobl, D.O., is the director of the Heart Disease Prevention Program and Lipid Clinic at the Thoracic Cardiovascular Institute and is among the first physicians in the country to achieve certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipid Management. He also specializes in noninvasive diagnostic cardiology. Dr. Strobl received his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa and performed an internship and Internal Medicine residency at Flint Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan. His training culminated with a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.


Dr. Strobl is also currently professor of medicine and chairman of the Section of Cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine at Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been awarded numerous academic honors including Outstanding Distinguished Lecturer and the Dedication to Teaching Award. Dr. Strobl was also nationally recognized in 2002 with the Northrup Award as the National Osteopathic Educator of the Year. He is frequently invited to lecture at medical seminars throughout the country and has participated in numerous scientific clinical trials that have influenced the present-day management of cholesterol and triglyceride disorders.

Elizabeth Swenor has 20 years of clinical practice and is the director of the Lifestyle, Integrative, and Functional Medicine Department at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI.  Dr. Swenor is board certified in Family Medicine and also board certified in Functional, Regenerative and Metabolic Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.  She has additional board certifications in Aesthetics Medicine.  Dr. Swenor has achieved certifications in plant-based nutrition through T. Collin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies Plant-Based Nutrition and completed the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) certification training program. 

Dr. Swenor’s medical practice focuses on evidence-based lifestyle and functional medicine approaches to promote and optimize wellness while preventing, treating, or reversing chronic disease.  Her medical practice encompasses all demographics and patient populations from all medical specialties.  Dr. Swenor emphasizes patient education promoting patient empowerment to transform patient health and longevity.  She has a strong commitment to providing personalized, highly service-oriented care.

Her clinical focus areas include all chronic diseases, gut and microbiome health, weight loss management, and plant-based nutrition.  Office visits are conducted in-office, and group medical office visits, as well as telemedicine office visits. 

Dr. Swenor has lectured nationally on Functional, Lifestyle, and Preventive Medicine.  She is an educator and board member of the Michigan based Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG).

Dr. Swenor has a master’s degree from Michigan State University in Education and K-12 Administration and formerly for several years was an elementary school teacher.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College.  She completed her medical education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and residency in Family Medicine in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She was the owner and medical director of Swenor Medical and Aesthetics Center in Petoskey, MI prior to joining HFHS.

After graduating with a Bachelors degree from Michigan State University in 1995, Barbara Zajdel attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She completed her Doctor of Osteopathy in 1999 and returned to Michigan for her internship and Family Medicine residency at Garden City Hospital. Upon completion of her Family Medicine training in 2002 she went to the University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine/Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas for her Plus One Residency program for NMM-OMM.  She completed her NMM-OMM residency training in 2003 at Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan.  Since then she has been working as an OMM specialist.  Dr. Zajdel earned her Fellowship in the American Academy of Osteopathy in 2018.   She currently has an office based practice in Farmington Hills, Michigan and is affiliated with Core Well in Farmington Hills.  She had an active inpatient practice from 2005-2018 where she worked with ONMM residents and other house staff teaching them how to incorporate OMT into inpatient care.  Since the COVID pandemic she has given up inpatient care.  In 2009 she became an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and currently teaches 1st and 2nd year medical students in the OMM lab at MSUCOM-DMC.  Dr. Zajdel has been providing Osteopathic oriented lectures and training for house staff and physicians at local hospitals since completing her postgraduate training, serves as a member of the AOBNMM, and the AOA Bureau of Specialists.

W. Britt Zimmerman received his doctorate degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery and urology from the Henry Ford Hospital System.

After he completed a fellowship in trauma reconstruction at Detroit Receiving Hospital, Zimmerman was appointed Chief of Urology at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in Detroit. His most recent appointment was with the Atlantic Urology and New Hanover Regional Medical Center in North Carolina. Zimmerman has completed intensive research and is published in a peer-reviewed journal on inflatable penile prosthesis and salvage protocol for mechanical failure.

In addition to his work with reconstructive urology, Zimmerman assists with cancer survivorship in men, and spinal cord injuries.

Zimmerman joins our multi-specialty group as a board-certified Urologist. He is adding to our complement of 225 providers performing cutting-edge research, teaching medical and nursing students, and providing exceptional care to the Greater Lansing community.
