Ted Varkas MSW, LMSW


Graduating from Michigan State University and Wayne State University, Mr.  Ted Varkas holds a MSW degree as a licensed  social worker in the state of Michigan.  Working as a psychotherapist for nearly 30 years, Mr. Varkas has worked in mental health and medical settings helping people of all ages, couples, caregivers, and families overcome struggles in their lives.

Mr. Varkas has worked extensively through Henry Ford Health, as well as a variety of health systems, in emergency room, adult, geriatric, and adolescent inpatient psychiatric settings, as well as providing supportive and coordinative services to cancer patients and their families.  

Mr. Varkas’ appointments include serving on the faculty at Wayne State University, developing an electronic distress screening protocol and implementing an integrative, multidisciplinary model of supportive care for cancer patients and caregivers.  

Mr. Varkas has presented nationally on his aforenoted accomplishments as well as best practices in mental health and cancer care.  Mr. Varkas’ publications include an in-depth examination of childhood trauma and post traumatic play.

Mr. Varkas remains affiliated with Henry Ford Health and maintains a private practice through Michigan Modern Psychology where he currently counsels individual clients and couples of all ages. 

Mr. Varkas is an avid runner and triathlete who has coached cancer survivors and their loved one’s complete marathons as well as competed and raised funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as Game On Cancer which he helped develop and manage.
