Kristi is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, an Intensivist of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist through Health Meets Food. She is the Medical Director of Lifestyle Medicine at Corewell Health, formerly Spectrum Health. She was the 2022 inaugural recipient of the ACLM Special Recognition award for Advancing Lifestyle Medicine in Health Systems. Joel Kahn, MD, FACC of Detroit, Michigan, is a practicing cardiologist, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Michigan Medical School. Known as "America’s Healthy Heart Doc", Dr. Kahn has triple board certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. He was the first physician in the world to certify in Metabolic Cardiology with A4M/MMI and the University of South Florida. He founded the Kahn Center for Cardiac Longevity in Bingham Farms, MI.
Dr. Kahn has authored scores of publications in his field including articles, book chapters and monographs. He writes health articles and has five books in publication including Your Whole Heart Solution, Dead Execs Don’t Get Bonuses and The Plant Based Solution. His 6th book, Lipoprotein(a): The Heart’s Silent Killer, is about to be published. He has regular appearances on Dr. Phil, The Doctors Show, Dr. Oz, Larry King Now, Joe Rogan Experience, and with Bassem Yousef. He has been awarded a Health Hero award from Detroit Crain’s Business. Virginia Skiba, M.D. received her Medical Doctor degree in 2004 when she graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. She spent the next 9 years of her career serving in the US Navy, when she worked as a primary care provider and later as a neurologist. In 2014, Dr. Skiba completed a sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan.
Currently, she works at the Henry Ford Sleep Disorders and Research Center in Southeast Michigan. She is the Associate Medical Director of the Henry Ford Medical Group sleep labs and Section Head of the Sterling Heights clinic. Dr. Skiba in active in the Michigan Academy of Sleep Medicine where she served as President in 2020, led several annual conferences, and is currently collaborating with other groups on ending early school start times in Michigan. She is enthusiastic about educating others on the value of good sleep and recognizing and managing all sleep disorders.
Dr. Melissa Sundermann is a double boarded physician in Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine and has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. She also has training in Integrative Medicine through the University of Michigan and has completed a Professional Training Program in Mind Body Medicine through the Center for Mind Body Medicine based in Washington, DC. She has been featured in several Lifestyle Medicine articles and podcasts as well as an invited speaker for health/medical national conferences. She strongly believes in fostering a partnership with her patients and helping to guide them towards a healing pathway through self-care utilizing Lifestyle Medicine principles. Her 7 pillars of health include a wholefood plant-slant dietary pattern, daily movement, restorative sleep, avoidance of risky behaviors (such as tobacco, excessive alcohol, drug use), stress management, social connection and daily exposure to nature and fresh air. Dr. Sundermann is also known as “Doctor Outdoors” and Chairs the Nature as Medicine sub-committee for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Sundermann currently specializes in Lifestyle Medicine at Canyon Ranch Wellness Resort in Lenox, MA. Prior to this role, she practiced medicine with IHA in Ann Arbor, MI where she helped to launch the IHA Lifestyle Medicine Institute and also led the IHA Staywell Committee which focuses on optimizing the health and well-being for 3000 employees of IHA. She does her best to practice what she preaches
and enjoys running, biking, hiking, skiing and spending time outdoors and creating adventures with her husband, 2 children and 2 dogs. She is a 10x Boston Marathon finisher, 3x Full Ironman Triathlon finisher and currently training for several upcoming Ultramarathons. She truly believes that age is just a number and is passionate about spreading this word to all of her patients, family and friends.
Dr. M. Elizabeth Swenor has 20 years of clinical practice and is the director of the Lifestyle, Integrative, and Functional Medicine Department at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI. Dr. Swenor is board certified in Family Medicine and also board certified in Functional, Regenerative and Metabolic Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. She has additional board certifications in Aesthetics Medicine. Dr. Swenor has achieved certifications in plant-based nutrition through T. Collin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies Plant-Based Nutrition and completed the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) certification training program.
Dr. Swenor’s medical practice focuses on evidence-based lifestyle and functional medicine approaches to promote and optimize wellness while preventing, treating, or reversing chronic disease. Her medical practice encompasses all demographics and patient populations from all medical specialties. Dr. Swenor emphasizes patient education promoting patient empowerment to transform patient health and longevity. She has a strong commitment to providing personalized, highly service-oriented care.
Her clinical focus areas include all chronic diseases, gut and microbiome health, weight loss management, and plant-based nutrition. Office visits are conducted in-office, and group medical office visits, as well as telemedicine office visits.
Dr. Swenor has lectured nationally on Functional, Lifestyle, and Preventive Medicine. She is an educator and board member of the Michigan based Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG).
Dr. Swenor has a master’s degree from Michigan State University in Education and K-12 Administration and formerly for several years was an elementary school teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College. She completed her medical education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and residency in Family Medicine in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the owner and medical director of Swenor Medical and Aesthetics Center in Petoskey, MI prior to joining HFHS.
